Heriot Toun in spring

Accommodation at Heriot Toun Studio

Our cosy award winning studio is perfect for couples or two singles (in a twin bedded room) and good for three (a single bed on a high level mezzanine accessed by a  vertical ladder). We do have a camp-bed for occasional use in the main space (if you're desperate) but please bring your own sleeping bag.

There's a shower room and toilet and a well equipped galley kitchen (see equipment list). The living area has a small sofa, table and chairs and a cosy wood burning stove (logs provided). There's no telly but there are books and dvd's as well as cd's from our visiting musicians (not to mention the ambient sounds of the birds, bees, cows and sheep!)

The adjoining 40m2 work area is spacious and brightly lit with north facing rooflights glass doors overlooking the Heriot valley.

We have wifi throughout.

Re food and drink - there is no shop in Heriot, you must bring everything with you or else drive the 8 miles to the nearest shop in Gorebridge.

You're welcome to bring your dog too.

(Please remember, the studio is a multi-purpose space therefore unsuitable for mucky or stinky stuff - sorry.)

Below is the architectural plan of Heriot Toun Studio, showing the layout of the live/work space.

Studio Interior

As the sleeping/living/working areas are all under one roof, residents have exclusive use of the studio. Heriot Toun Studio is perfect for two people, great for three, ok for the occasional fourth. There's a twin bedded room, a single mattress on the high level platform above the living area accessed by a ladder. The 'occasional fourth' bed is a foldaway camp bed and to be honest isn't ideal unless you're desperate; you need to put it somewhere in the main space I (not lot of privacy). Bed linen and towels are provided for all three permanent beds but bring your own sleeping bag for the foldaway bed. Let us know if you need the camp-bed so we can bring it out for you.

There's a hairdryer in the bedroom.

Our eco-friendly studio has a cosy wood-burning stove and a ground source heat pump for hot water. There's lots of insulation throughout and the stove pumps out loads of heat so it's warm and cosy all year round. Logs are provided.

The shower room/toilet is immediately adjacent to the living space.

There is a well equipped kitchen with hob/oven and fridge.(see list below for details)

The sitting area has comfy seats, the wood burning stove, bookcase with books and magazines, cd player/radio, 15" dvd player, reading lights and a table for eating/reading/writing.

There is free wifi for internet access. (No land-line.)

Studio Exterior

There is a timber deck immediately outside the working area of the studio which could be used for poetry readings, music, relaxing, eating and drinking - basically whatever you like. There is also a campfire area (wood supplied) and a BBQ, but please bring your own charcoal.

There's a small horse trailer beside the studio which we call our sitooterie. It's basically a small space with seats and cushions to be used as you will.

Heriot sits in the middle of great cycling country, so if you do bring your bike there's a hose outside in case it needs a clean after your ride and there's a shed you can keep it in.
