Heriot Toun in autumn

Accommodation at Heriot Toun Studio

Our cosy award winning self-catering studio is perfect for couples or two singles, great for three, ok for four.

There is a twin bedded room, a single bed on a high level platform (accessed by a vertical ladder) and one foldaway single bed which you can position where you like.

There's a shower room with decent shower and a well equipped galley kitchen (see equipment list). The living area has a comfy sofa, table and chairs and cosy wood burning stove. There's no telly but there are books to read and dvd's to watch as well as cd's from our resident musicians (not to mention the sound of the birds, the bees, cows and sheep). The 40m2 work area is spacious and brightly lit with north facing rooflights glass doors overlooking the Heriot valley.

All parts of the studio have underfloor heating.

You're welcome to bring your dog too.

(Please remember, the studio is a multi-purpose space therefore unsuitable for mucky or stinky stuff - sorry.)

Below is the architectural plan of Heriot Toun Studio, showing the layout of the live/work space.

Studio Interior

As the sleeping/living/working areas are all under one roof, residents have exclusive use of the studio. Heriot Toun Studio is perfect for two people, great for three, fine for four. There's a twin bedded room, a single mattress on the high level platform above the living area accessed by a ladder, and  a single foldaway bed that you can position where you like. Bed linen and towels are provided.

Our eco-friendly studio has a ground source heat pump and underfloor heating, with lots of insulation throughout so is warm and cosy all year round. There's also a wood burning stove if you feel the need for extra warmth or just a comfy glow.

There is a hairdryer in the bedroom.

The shower room/toilet is immediately adjacent to the living space.

There is a well equipped kitchen with hob/oven and fridge.(see list below for details)

The sitting area has comfy seats, wood burning stove, bookcase with books and magazines, cd player/radio, 15" dvd player, reading lights and a table for eating/reading/writing.

There is free wifi for internet access. There's no land-line now since most folk bring their own mobiles.

We provide a basket of logs and kindling to get you started, but please bring your own small logs if you think you might want to use the stove a lot. We can also provide you with an axe and a few branches if you want to chop your own. (Please don't chop anything we haven't given you though) There's usually a fair amount of kindling lying around the base of the trees if you need extra to get it going so no need to bring that.

Studio Exterior

There is a timber deck immediately outside the working area of the studio which could be used for poetry readings, music, relaxing, eating and drinking - basically whatever you like. There is also a campfire area and BBQ, but please bring your own charcoal.

There's a small horse trailer beside the studio which we call our sitooterie. It's basically a small space with seats and cushions to be used as you will!

Heriot sits in the middle of great cycling country, so if you do bring your bike there's a hose outside in case it needs a clean after your ride.
