Arctic Svalbard has a period on the calendar called dark-time; morketiden, when the sun dips below the horizon in November and doesn't rise again until late January. In the preceding period, light is lost at an astonishing twenty minutes a day, temperatures start to plummet and the rhythm of life slows down in response to these changes. Dark-time is a time of reflection, dreams and imaginings.
