CODA- For those who don't know, they are a Folk Music and Scottish Music shop on The Mound in Edinburgh, and have been here since 1997.

Margaret Bennett: Singer and folklorist credits her family upbringing amid Gaelic and Scots tradition bearers with her expertise in Scottish Folklore.

VISUAL ARTS

Mhairi Law: Award winning photographer based on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Also runs the Island Darkroom, running workshops and selling silver gelatin prints and tweed textiles.

Art North: An exciting and much needed new quarterly magazine celebrating and connecting the visual arts of Scotland and the far north. Out in the spring of 2019 but you can access it online now.

An Lanntair: A hub for creativity and the arts in the Outer Hebrides.

Andrew Mackenzie: Local artist living in Stow.

Atlas Arts: ATLAS is an arts organisation dedicated to visual arts projects and education in Skye and Lochalsh.

Brae Projects - Orkney based Alistair Peebles's site is now under construction 

Hanna Tuulikki - A Finnish-English musician, vocalist and artist.

Orkney Arts - Orkney artists' group

Pat Law - Heriot Toun's permanent resident artist. 

The Pier Arts Centre Orkney arts centre housing an important collection of British art. Extended by Reiach and hall in 2007

GREAT VENUES

Elm House - the home of composer and producer, Ben Seal and a great venue for a house concert!

Glenuig Hall - first opened in 1995 and home to a lot of great parties and gigs.  

Heriot Toun Studio of course! Nominated for Venue of the Year at the Scottish Trad Awards, we were chuffed to be valued in this way!

INSPIRING PLACES:

Hebridean Bothy Pods: Beautiful and cosy and with some of the finest views you'll find in the Hebrides. One fo the most inspring places we know.

Bed with a View: In the heart of historic Edinburgh a studio apartment with a back door onto the Royal Mile and front step onto The Mound. It's owned by the booky artist Rachel Hazel and it's for rent.

Iona hostel - Tranquility, sanctuary and friendliness, tucked in amongst rocky outcrops and flower meadows, Iona Hostel looks out to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles. Great mutton and wool products from Hebridean sheep. And of one the best places we know of to go for inspiration!

Alternative boat hire - If you want to sail around the west coast of Scotland on a beautiful boat with a great guy to guide you - look no further. Based on the beautiful Iona.

9 East Bay - A beautiful bed and breakfast right on the shores of the Forth in the lovely wee village of North Queensferry - and literally a short stone's throw from the water. THE FOLK WHO HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN:

Reiach and Hall Architects: Designers of two fine studios in the Borders and a multitude of other award winning buildings throughout Scotland. Also host to Sleeper , a white space in the basement of the office showing fresh contemporary art.

Sally Ruel Architect - Our local architect based in Heriot! (But happy to work throughout Scotland) Sally Ruel established her practice in June 1996. Using a breadth of experience and skills she offers a range of architectural services spanning all project stages from feasibility studies to building design and contract administration for projects in the housing, community, commercial and leisure sectors. She can also advise on the appointment of other building professionals to make a complete design team.

Quercus Rural Building Design - An Architect led design and build, or design only service, for a range of buildings in the Rural Sector. Sister company to Sally Ruel Architects.

Funktioncreep - Scotland's award winning visual productions team - and helpful folk to us here at the studio!

Creative Scotland - where we go when we need a hand to get a project off the ground.

CRAFTS:

Lindean Mill Glass - Established since 1978 in the Scottish Borders, they are pioneers of the studio glass movement in Scotland. This thriving glass studio has an international reputation and is renowned for beautifully-designed contemporary glassware.

Gracie J - Designs jewellery made from handcrafted glass and ceramic beads dipped in pure silver, copper and gold - local and lovely!

Evie Milo jewellery - not just a fabby website designer but a funky jewellery maker too.
