Heriot Toun in spring

FURTHER INFO...

Booking and Rates

Sorry but we've had to raise our rates as our costs (like everyone elses) are increasing at a rate of knots. We've hung on for as long as we can but from the 1st June 2023  the cost of the studio per night will rise to £95 per night.  Entry 2pm on arrival day, cheerio by 11am on day of departure.

Accommodation

The studio is perfect for two, great for three. There's a twin-bedded room and a high level platform single bed accessed by a ladder from the main space. We've also got a foldaway bed for occasional use in case you need a fourth bed which involves us leaving it out and you putting it where you like in the studio - there's no private space for it.

If you have more than four people and don't mind camping, you can always bring a tent - there's plenty space outside @ £10 per person per night  (a lovely way to watch the sun rise and listen to the birdsong).

We have recently bought a new log burning stove for the studio and it pumps out the heat making the studio lovely and cosy!

Rates

The rate is £95 per night, minimum 2 nights based on three people in the studio ie £190.

Because the studio is primarily a working space we don't vary the rate seasonally as in holiday lets so the cost per night is the same all year round. The only exception to this being any Christmas or New Year bookings.

Studio use varies from artist to artist depending on how the space is used, some want to stay the night, others want just day use so a wee bit more infomation is required on booking. Our basic rate is the nightly rate which is from 2pm to 11 am the next day. In order to accomodate everyones needs and give you the correct cost we ask you to provide the date and time of arrival as well as the date and time of your departure when booking.

Cleaning supplement:
To try and keep costs as affordable as we can, we don't charge for cleaning and we ask visitors to do their bit and leave the studio in as clean and tidy a state as possible. The instructions on what to do before you leave are in the brown folder in the studio so please read it. If you'd prefer that we clean the studio for you, please add £50 to the cost of your stay.

Included in the price:

  • Heating and electricity.
  • Gas for cooking.
  • Bed linen and towels.
  • Tea towels, cloths
  • Logs.
  • Washing-up liquid, cleaning materials
  • Good Wifi

There's no landline in the studio but you can usually find signal for most networks.

Heriot Toun Studio has a 'No Smoking' policy including e-cigarettes.

There's no shop around for groceries so bring everything with you.

Last minute bookings are fine, just call us.

nb Once again, please leave the studio clean and tidy as you found it (cleaning materials provided). We reserve the right to make a surcharge to cover the extra costs if it takes more time than usual to get the place ship-shape.

How things work:

  1. We ask for a non refundable deposit of 50% please to secure a booking more than a month away, balance is due 4 weeks before arrival. Sorry, we don't accept credit cards but you can pay by bank transfer (details will be on invoice).

  2. If you have to cancel less than 4 weeks from your arrival date we'll do our best to find an alternative booking, but if not, the full fee is payable.

  3. Dogs are welcome in the studio, but let us know if you're bringing yours.  Remember we're surrounded by livestock so they must be kept under control please. Also, we don't charge for extra cleaning so please make sure there no doggy hairs left behind.

  4. We ask you kindly to leave the studio as near as possible to the condition it was in when you arrived, ie clean and tidy. By doing this you are helping us keep the rates down, which is good for everyone. We reserve the right to make a surcharge to cover the extra costs if it takes more time than usual to get the place ship-shape. Please add £30 to the cost of your stay if you'd prefer us to clean the studio for you.

Winter

*WINTER*

The lovely thing about the studio is that it's just off the beaten track and accessed via a private farm track ensuring a high degree of peace and quiet. The down side to this is, the council does not clear the track in the winter. Bare in mind that we're in a hilly rural area (altitude 800ft asl) and it can get snowy and icy at times in the winter months. Sometimes the track and parking area can be slippy and if you manage to get up the track, you might not manage to get out again.  All of the studio land is on a slope so you' would need to park your car at the bottom of the track if you can't get up it. (Check with us first so you don't park in the way of the farmer's tractor or trailer)

So please check the weather forecast and local conditions before you arrive, (and feel free to ring us) then park at the bottom of the track by the gate and check it out before you drive up to the studio. (Bring your snow boots!) We don't have a vehicle to pull you out. If in doubt, park your car at the bottom of the track and walk the short distance to the studio. Please speak to us before you come so we can make sure you're parked in the right place.

Saying all that - what we've described is the worst case scenario, mostly it's fine. We just need to warn you of how it can be very occasionally in a hard winter. And the plus side is that it's great to be in the studio in wintery weather watching the weather go by while you're warm and cosy inside!
